Alice A. Oluoko-Odingo is Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Nairobi, with 19 years of experience in teaching and research on Environmental issues. She holds Honours Degree in Geography and PhD in Agricultural Geography from the University of Nairobi. She has published in books and peer reviewed journals in agriculture and food security, poverty and livelihoods, climate change, Energy, Gender and disaster risk reduction, Ecosystem management, agro-biodiversity, health, cleaner production, and sustainability issues. She has articles in the Annals of Association of American Geographers and GeoJournal and Book Chapters with Spears, among others. Alice is the current Chairperson, Corporate Gender Mainstreaming Committee, University of Nairobi and one of the Vice Presidents and Director of the Academic Council on United Nations System (ACUNS). She is past National Coordinator of the United Nation’s University and Partner Universities Programme on Education for Sustainable Development in Africa (ESDA), Next Generation Researchers Team (NGR), Immediate Team Leader on Research on Peri-Urban Crop and Livestock Farming for Food Security and Livelihood Sustainability, and Gender Analysis of the Mara Conservancies, Environment Judge- National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND), former Gender Focal Point- at the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC), Nairobi, a former Board member, Association of Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), and Soroptimist International UN Environment Representative in Nairobi, among other responsibilities.
