Abstract
The University of Nairobi (UoN) has, over the past few years, embarked on a transformative journey to reform higher education, research, and innovation (HERI) in engineering and science.
This vision led to the establishment of the Engineering and Science Complex (ESC), a flagship initiative designed not only as a state-of-the-art academic facility but also as a platform for
fostering international collaboration, particularly with French and European partner institutions.
Structured around six thematic pillars—
- Governance,
- Curricula Reform,
- Research Excellence,
- Innovation Culture,
- Industry Linkages,
- Internationalization
The ESC advances strategic actions including mobility programs, capacity building, collaborative research, and innovation
ecosystem strengthening.
The 2025 ESC Annual Research Conference, to be held at the University of Nairobi on October 28–29, 2025, under the Theme “Engineering a New Era: Pioneering Science and Technology for Societal Change,” reflects this commitment.
The program features keynote contributions from UoN and French partners, panel discussions showcasing PhD mobility beneficiaries, joint research grant awardees, and sessions on industry collaboration and EU research opportunities.
This conference underscores the ESC’s role as a hub for excellence, international networks, and impactful partnerships, driving innovation and societal transformation.
